Our youth programs, including sports, serve as platforms for nurturing essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Throughout the year, we provide opportunities for youngsters to engage in various sports activities, honing their abilities while fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

BASEBALL - COACHES PITCH
Wabash County YMCA Coaches Pitch Registration Description:
Welcome to the Wabash County YMCA’s Coach Pitch program! Tailored for children ages 7-8, our program emphasizes learning the essential aspects of baseball within a supportive team environment. Below, you’ll find important details about our program and what your child can expect to experience during their time with us.
Program Overview:
- Age Group: ages 7-8
- Skill Development: Participants will focus on mastering foundational skills including catching, throwing, and batting
- Inclusive Philosophy: No tryouts, cuts, or benchwarmers – every child plays at least half of every game, fostering camaraderie and skill-building
- Practice and Game Atmosphere: A positive and fun team atmosphere encourages social interaction and skill development
Practice and Game Details:
- Practice Frequency: Each team typically practices once a week
- League Participation: YMCA teams compete in the Wabash County Metro League
- Game Locations: Home games are held at the Field of Dreams, while away games are scheduled in Roann, Lagro, and Lafontaine
Volunteer Coaches Needed: We are currently seeking volunteer coaches to support our program. If you’re passionate about baseball and enjoy working with children, we invite you to join us as a volunteer coach. To apply, simply fill out a form online or at the YMCA front desk, pass a background check, and complete brief online training modules.
Program Dates:
- Program Duration: Week of May 5th – week of June 23rd (specific game days and times to be determined)
Equipment Requirements: Participants are required to bring their own mitt, bat, cleats, and helmet. Some equipment may be provided by the YMCA.

Welcome to the Wabash County YMCA’s T-Ball program! Geared towards children ages 4-6, our program focuses on introducing the foundational skills of baseball in an enjoyable team environment. Below, you’ll find important details about our program and what your child can expect when they join us on the field.
Program Overview:
- Age Group: ages 4-6 (by start of session)
- Skill Development: Participants will learn basic techniques including catching, throwing, and batting
- Inclusive Approach: No tryouts, cuts, or benchwarmers – every child plays at least half of every game
- Social Growth: Players will forge new friendships while honing their skills
Practice and Game Details:
- Practice Frequency: Each team practices approximately once a week
- League Affiliation: YMCA teams compete in the Wabash County Metro League
- Game Locations: Home games will be hosted at the Field of Dreams, while away games are scheduled in Roann, Lagro, and Lafontaine
- Game Days: Most games will be scheduled on Saturday’s but some make-up games could be scheduled for weekday evenings

NFL FLAG FOOTBALL
Wabash County YMCA Flag Football Registration Description:
Get ready for an exciting season of Flag Football at the Wabash County YMCA! In partnership with the NFL, we’re thrilled to offer NFL Flag football for children ages 5-12, focusing on the fundamentals of running plays, passing, catching, and defense. Below, you’ll find important details about our program and what your child can expect when they hit the field with us.
Program Overview:
- Age Group: Grades K – 8
- Skill Development: Our program emphasizes the foundational skills of flag football, teaching players the ins and outs of the game at a young age and helping them perfect their skills as they grow
- Values Emphasized: Coaches instill values such as good sportsmanship, a love of the game, and a strong work ethic in every participant
- Developmental Focus: Our emphasis is on learning, having fun, and sportsmanship, prioritizing growth over winning or losing
Practice and Game Details:
- Practice Frequency: Players will have practice sessions once or twice per week, allowing ample opportunity for skill development and team bonding
- Game Schedule: Games are held on Thursday evenings, providing a fun and competitive atmosphere for players to showcase their skills
Gear:
- Each child will receive their own flags and an NFL flag football jersey!
- Parents/guardians should purchase football cleats, a mouthpiece, and shorts for their child.

SOCCER - FALL OUTDOOR
Outdoor Soccer – Get ready for a fast-paced and thrilling sport for kids of all ages! Beginners will have a blast learning the basics of ball control, passing, and shooting in a fun and engaging environment. As players progress, they’ll build their skills, confidence, and teamwork. Advanced players will master ball-handling, scoring plays, and sportsmanship. With practice and exciting games, kids will boost their coordination, motor skills, quickness, and agility. Shin guards are a must for all age groups.
Join us at the YMCA Field of Dreams, where the action happens! Practices are held once a week on weeknights, Monday through Friday, in the late afternoon or evening. The excitement continues on Saturdays with game day.
Games begin August 30th and run for 6 weeks on Saturdays. Games will only be during the week if we have rainouts.
